Page, Ariz., Sep. 21—Wednesday’s ride was all about the weather. And there was lots of it. From the dousing that sent 58 riders off into a bright-and-early rain cloud right on to the downpour that soaked riders through to the bone after the trip to the Four Corners Monument where riders stood with hands and feet in each to the four states represented, it was a pretty damp day. Riders decked out in full rain gear straddled Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado before heading off across the Navajo reservation to their evening stop in Page, Arizona.
Sweep vehicles hauled in10 broken bikes but individual support vehicles hauled in a few wounded warriors of their own. For 23-year old Alex Trepanier, rider #109 who arrived in Atlantic City with no support whatsoever, this would be the first engine fail for the 104-year old Indian Single. Alex has kept the bike running with after-hours and roadside repairs and it just so happened that he had the parts necessary to fix the geriatric motorcycle so, we expect we’ll see young Alex back on the line tomorrow morning.
